Among Us Challenges and Modes

Among Us is the big game at the moment and I’ll be honest, that doesn’t look like it will be changing anytime soon. But, as people play it more and more they start looking for more challenges. That’s likely why you’re reading this right now. I went out in search of some Among Us Challenges and found that there wasn’t really one place where you could easily find them all. So that’s exactly what I’ve created. This may not be all the Among Us Challenges and Modes, and it doesn’t include any that require mods, that’s a different article completely. What this does include though are some ideas that you can implement right now. These are presented in no particular order. If you know of any ideas that I’ve not included let me know in the comments and I’ll be sure to add it to the list!

Name Changes

Who Can Play: Friends
Game Settings: Any

This challenge has a whole lot of variation because it is so simple. The idea quite simply is to change your name to fit a theme. The most popular of these is changing your name to a color that you aren’t and also changing from your normal color. This way no one knows who anyone is and quite frankly, you’ll spend half the meeting trying to remember who you are too. Below I’ll list a few different variations on this challenge.

Change Pronouns (aka the Caveman Challenge) – Everyone is named a Pronoun; He, She, It, I, Them, They, and so on. Then hilarity ensues as everyone starts talking like a caveman.

Color Change – Everyone picks a name that is a color in the game and then picks a totally random color. Once the group is sure that no one is the same color as their name the game can start.

Play Your Friend – Everyone swaps to the color, hat, and buddy that someone in the friend group usually has along with using their name. Take the game into extra hard mode by making every person speak for what their character was doing in the game. It’s hard and hilarious as they don’t even know if their character is the imposter or not and has to try to guess where they were on the map.

Black and White Challenge

Who Can Play: Friends
Game Settings: Any

Play the game in black and white with the Black and White Challenge. This requires you to change some settings on your computer/phone and the process is somewhat detailed so I won’t go into it here but if you’d like to give it a try you can find all the steps on how to do it here. Playing in black and white was more of a challenge before they updated the Wires tasks to include shapes.

These days the best way to play the game is by adding another layer of difficulty with names. Give people names like IIlllII or OOO00OO. This makes it even more difficult to tell who anyone is and keeps people guessing.

Hide and Seek

Who Can Play: Anyone
Game Settings: 1 Imposter

Hide and Seek is possibly the most common mode to play outside of the standard at the moment. You can find it in random lobbies, you can find it on Twitch…everyone is doing it. Hide and Seek begins with only having one imposter, and they must out themselves immediately at the first and only emergency meeting that will take place during the game. All crewmates have to agree not to report bodies, call any emergency meetings, or turn on the lights. With the lights off it is now a game of staying alive. Find yourself a good hiding spot or constantly run around the map. Which tactic you go with is entirely up to you.

Three Words

Who Can Play: Anyone, but getting random people to follow the rules is hard
Game Settings: Any

The impostors will have a bit of an advantage in this challenge, but it is so much fun. For every death that happens in that round, each person is allowed to say 3 words. After those three words are up everyone has to decide who to vote out without using words. It is almost impossible to get everyone voting for the same person.

No Colors Challenge

Who Can Play: Anyone, but getting random people to follow the rules is hard
Game Settings: Any

For this challenge, no one is allowed to name colors during meetings. Some versions allow you to say things that are that color, like “Banana” for Yellow but others don’t. An added level of difficulty combines this idea with the Color Change challenge so you both have no idea who anyone is and you can’t use color to describe them.

The Rainbow Challenge

Who Can Play: Friends
Game Settings: Any

This is a challenge that involves the imposter more than the others. The idea is that you have to kill in the order of the rainbow. If both imposters die or an imposter kills out of order then the challenge is failed.

Follow the Leader

Who Can Play: Anyone, but getting random people to follow the rules is hard
Game Settings: Any

Everyone line up one behind the other and go around the map completing tasks. This game is all about the imposters causing chaos by turning off lights. This is their chance to kill while everyone is frantically running to get the lights turned back on.

Night Mode

Who Can Play: Anyone, but getting random people to follow the rules is hard
Game Settings: Any

Make the game a little bit harder for the crewmates by turning off the lights and leaving them off. If someone turns them on by accident (these things do happen) everyone should stop where they are until the imposter can turn the lights off again. The goal is to get all your tasks done before the imposter kills you.

Going in Blind

Who Can Play: Anyone, but getting random people to follow the rules is hard
Game Settings: Any

For this mode, everyone stands in the starting area, with no kills while the imposter turns off comms. While they are deactivating you aren’t allowed to look at what tasks you have. You’re going in blind. After that, the goal is to run around and do all your tasks without getting killed.

Try Not to Laugh

Who Can Play: Anyone with Voice Chat
Game Settings: Any

The try not to laugh challenge is quite a simple one. Play the game like normal and the first person to laugh during the meetings gets voted out. You must remain muted between meetings.
